Exhibition- Righteous Among the Nations- Anton Sukhinski

During his lifetime, Anton Sukhinski lived in a small town named Zaborow in Ukraine. Anton was a private man, who loved animals and greenery, and was considered by the people of the town as the village fool. In 1943, when rumors started to spread about the systematic killing of the Jews, Anton took the Zeiger family and two Jewish girls under his wings. Anton was a simple farmer, and it was extremely difficult for him to afford enough food for all of them. After a while, Anton’s neighbors started to suspect him of hiding Jews and reported him to the police. When the Ukrainian and German soldiers arrived at his house, they searched and wrecked his house but found nothing. They threatened Anton’s life, but he didn’t say a word. With his courage, Anton managed to keep the refugees safe and hidden until the end of the war.

In 1974 the Yad Vasem Institute knowledge Anton Sukhinski as Righteous Among the Nations.
