The path of the righteous : gentile rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust

Description

" I am a Holocaust survivor and I know how I survived.
I was not murdered—as so many children were—because someone risked her life to save mine. In that time of terror, tyranny, and fear, it took a special kind of person to help Jews. For most people, it seemed easier to turn away, to ignore the pervasive persecutions and perhaps even to profit as accessories to the mass murders.
Nevertheless, there were few brave people who dared to help Jews even thought doing so placed their lives in jeopardy. We who were rescued can never forged our rescuers, nor the great debt we own them. It is a debt of honor that we can never really repay. That is how my family and I feel about the woman who saved me and that is how we feel about every rescuer.
Who were the rescuers? They represented the diversity of humanity.”—p. 373.
